U.S. President Donald Trump stated on Thursday that he has no regrets about starting the war with Iran, despite its potential impact on the Republican Party's standing ahead of the midterm elections.
In an interview with Laura Ingraham on Fox News, Trump said he does not "believe in the word 'regret'" and added that if he had to do it all over again, he "would do exactly the same thing."
Trump also dismissed suggestions that some of his supporters are unhappy with the war and reiterated his earlier claim that the conflict would end immediately after the November midterm elections.
Trump and the Republican Party are facing growing voter dissatisfaction over the war with Iran—primarily due to its impact on energy prices and the overall cost of living.
The conflict shows no signs of abating; this week, the U.S. and Iran carried out some of the most significant attacks on commercial shipping seen throughout the standoff.
Washington generally maintains the position that Iran must not acquire nuclear weapons and has repeatedly demanded that Tehran scale back its nuclear program as a condition for any peace agreement.
