Sam Bankman-Fried, the infamous co-founder of the cryptocurrency exchange FTX, has filed a request for a new trial.
The motion is dated February 5 but was officially filed on Tuesday in Manhattan federal court. Bankman-Fried filed the request pro se, meaning he is representing himself in the case.
In his filing, Bankman-Fried, who is serving a 25-year prison sentence for fraud related to the collapse of FTX, claims that new witness testimony could refute prosecutors' charges against him. This request is unrelated to the formal appeal of his 2023 sentence.
Bankman-Fried was found guilty of all seven counts of fraud, conspiracy, and money laundering in United States v. Bankman-Fried. On March 28, 2024, he received a 25-year prison sentence and was ordered to forfeit $11 billion.
