Bitcoin was up 0.43% at $79,979.7 as of 12:27 PM Moscow time, following a strong rebound from around $63,000 in August.
Bitcoin traded near $80,000 on Sunday as investors assessed continued corporate demand for the cryptocurrency amid the still-volatile 2026 price action, with Strategy increasing its holdings and US lawmakers approaching a key vote on crypto market regulation.
The cryptocurrency remains down approximately 9% year-to-date, leaving investors focused on whether institutional and corporate buying can provide more solid support after several sharp fluctuations.
Strategy (NASDAQ:MSTR) remains one of the largest sources of corporate demand. The company raised $602.8 million by selling common stock from August 24 to 30 and used $369.7 million of those funds to purchase 4,603 bitcoins.
These purchases brought Strategy's assets to 845,050 BTC as of August 30. The company has issued $20.9 billion in common and preferred shares this year, making it one of the largest equity issuers in the US, with some of that capital continuing to be used to purchase bitcoin.
Regulatory policy has also returned to the spotlight. The US Senate is approaching a procedural vote on the CLARITY Act, legislation that would establish a federal market framework for digital assets and divide oversight between the Commodity Futures Trading Commission and the Securities and Exchange Commission.
A cloture vote is scheduled for September 15. The bill's passage will move it closer to formal consideration in the Senate after the House approved the measure last year.
Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse declared that US leadership in the crypto space is "achievable" following an August White House meeting attended by regulators and executives from Coinbase, Kraken, Robinhood, Nasdaq, and Intercontinental Exchange.
The combination of continued corporate accumulation and progress toward clearer regulation in the US creates a constructive long-term backdrop for Bitcoin, but recent results show how uneven gains remain.
Historical data cited by Bitwise Europe shows that Bitcoin gains tend to be concentrated in a small number of trading days. In 2026, removing the five strongest sessions of the year would turn an approximate 9% decline into a loss of around 36%, illustrating how quickly market dynamics can change with significant moves. Thus, Bitcoin is hovering around $80,000, with two structural forces in focus: continued institutional demand and the prospect of clearer US regulations, even though short-term price dynamics remain difficult to predict.
