Symbiotic hires former SocGen AM APAC head for on-chain markets

Symbiotic, a collateralized markets platform backed by Paradigm,

Pantera Capital, and Coinbase Ventures, has appointed former Société Générale Asset Management CEO Mahendran Nathan as its global head of on-chain solutions, Investing.com has learned.

Nathan, who will be based in Singapore, assumed his new role in August. He joins the company as it accelerates its efforts to attract institutional capital to on-chain markets—a process that requires pension funds, insurers, and sovereign wealth funds to establish the necessary investment structures, governance, and reporting mechanisms.

At Société Générale Asset Management, Nathan served as CEO and Regional Head of Asia-Pacific. According to Symbiotic, he grew the platform's assets under management from $300 million to $15 billion in seven years and attracted mandates from sovereign wealth funds, central banks, pension funds, and insurance companies.

He subsequently served as CEO of the ASEAN, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and India business at Russell Investments, and since 2022, he has been working as an allocator in public and private markets.

At Symbiotic, he will lead the development of investment products for asset owners and allocators, as well as be responsible for capital formation and institutional client work in the US, EMEA, and Asia-Pacific.

Misha Putyatin, co-founder of Symbiotic, noted that Nathan's experience "brings us closer to creating real on-chain institutional-scale markets."
