BitMEX cryptocurrency exchange to shut down in september

Cryptocurrency exchange BitMEX announced today that it will shut down operations on September 23.

The company assured users that their assets are safe and under their control.

HDR Global Trading, which owns and operates BitMEX, made the decision to close as part of a strategic business review, according to a post on X (formerly Twitter, blocked in Russia).

The exchange urged users to close their positions and withdraw their funds before the closure date.

In 2022, BitMEX co-founders Benjamin Delo, Arthur Hayes, and Samuel Reed pleaded guilty to failing to comply with the anti-money laundering program under the Bank Secrecy Act.
